Durham Cathedral And Trees

Sketch a Day - Day 198/365

To York and then to Durham and back today. Meeting new writing squad 12 writers. Always so exciting meeting our new members face to face and having that first long chin wag. The starts of two new creative conversations. As ever, it was magic. I came away knackered and super inspired and excited.

Also, it's not often that you get to see two cathedrals in the same day. Both buildings are quite amazing. Designed to create utter awe. And hundreds of years later they still pack a punch. Towering over everything. Definitely letting the folks know that god is big, mighty and not to be messed with.

I have never yet made it inside Durham Cathedral but I am always struck by the contrast of the exterior and interior vibes at York. For me the minster has all that exterior extra large, made to be spectacular, dick swing energy going on on the outside, but get inside and I am always hit by it's contemplative, peaceful interior.

Here we are.

I got some of the perspective wrong in this drawing. But again, here we are. I like the way the buildings pop out of the trees. As if a forest is growing up through the city. I mean, one day that's exactly what will happen here. Cities will become gardens. Cathedrals will be dwarfed by giant lichens and trees as thick as steeples. Nature doesn't like to be upstaged. Eventually the Cathedrals will be put in there place. Probably.

That's the news .
