Jane Sleeps
Sketch a day - Day 202/365
Today, like the last few days has been full of writing and rushing and not much time for drawing. But somehow the drawing must be done. So I sketched Jane as she sleeps. And pretty soon I shall be sleeping too.
I tend to turn to digital drawing when I am in a rush, but I really enjoy the little app I use. It's not fancy, but it reminds me of painting when I was a kid. Finger paints but without the mess.
I discovered two new writers today. Joanna Macy - who created the Work That Reconnects Network. She died and I saw some of her words in a eulogy about her. How could I have not known about her until today. I found her words really beautiful and hopeful and unsentimental and true. Just what I needed in a time of killing and cynicism and despair. I am excited to find out more. And it's also a beautiful thing to remember that words continue on after someone has died.
And then this evening we went to a reading at the bookshop on the square in Otley by Jay Griffiths, talking about her new book ‘how animals heal us’. Again, I have no idea how I wasn't aware of Jay's work until now. It was such a beautiful intro to her work.
My book pile got bigger. Whoops.
And that's the news.
