Railway Children at Oxenhope Station

Sketch a day - day 233/365

I went to see the Railway Children theatre show in Oxenhope (part of the Bradford 25 city of culture). It was utterly delightful. I cried twice. I never cry at the theatre. Beautiful work. I mean the whole thing and everyone is wonderful. The kind of show that will live in hearts and minds for years to come. The kind of show that in 15 years you will hear young theatre folk name checking when someone says ‘what made you fall in love with theatre’. So it's all-round wonderful and if you can get a ticket, go. But, (this is partisan I know) I do have to have a little shout out for the script by Mike Kenny. Understated perfection. Some simple but beautiful choices that made it make sense as a theatre show now, while allowing it wonderful freedom to mine iconic images from the film. There is nostalgia for the story and the original film, but it also gets to be it's own thing. That's great writing.

It's good to end what has been a very rough week on a real high.

The sketches are pretty bobbins but here we are. I live to sketch better another day.

Joy and life. Can't talk about being grateful for those things without remembering to say, Free Palestine. 🇵🇸💔

That's the news.
