Ann Hamilton Exhibition at Saltaire - We Will Sing
Sketch a day - Day 242/365
I was flyering for Otherhood in Saltaire today. I used to do flyering all the time, moons ago. I had forgotten how tiring it is. Or perhaps it didn't used to be this tiring and I am just less fit.
Probably the latter.
Anyway, it went well. Most shops and places said yes to having flyers or a poster. And a few folks behind the tills said they wanted to come to the show.
Come on!
I went to Salts mill to see if they had a community board. They didn't sadly, but while I was searching, I did happen across Ann Hamilton’s amazing exhibition at the top of the building.
The question that the exhibition kept asking was ‘what does the future need to know’.
I am still thinking about that.
My first impulse is to say it needs to know we are sorry.
But that's a first thought. I think something more interesting will emerge. Or will appear to go hand in hand with this first thought.
I loved the newspaper print that is layed out throughout the space. Being a compleatest I got a copy of each piece and now have a newspaper worth of ideas and images to explore.
Probably over the next little while, as the rehearsal starts tomorrow and I think my brain will be locked into that for the foreseeable.
But I was so glad to see this art today.
The huge, blurry faces painted on what looked like huge sheets of felt were extraordinary.
Haunting.
Like melted clown faces from a nightmare you can't quite remember.
Neither benevolent or bringing harm.
Just looming.
I will be thinking about these for a long time.
That's the news. Other than to say
Free Palestine
And also may the Global Sumud Flotilla (that left Barcelona today) sail safely to break the siege. ❤️🙏🏻🇵🇸
