Sketch a day - Day 215/365
The tea mug arrives again. This means, you will know by now, that I have been flailing around, looking for something to damn well draw. I have just been pretty much glued to screens working. That isn't good for anyone, but sometimes it's life. When trying to get a play into shape and over the line.
So, I went back to my trusty tea mug. I sketched it again. I continue to try and get a drawing of it that pleases me. It endlessly evades me. Drawing circles and eclipses and perspective is so tricky. I think that digital drawing is in many ways an invitation to make bad habits. Stages can be skipped (no need to wait for anything to dry). That said, its fun and fast and still asks you to look at something carefully and try to imagine how it can be rendered with lines. And learning to look I think is half the task. I sometimes think I draw things as I think they should be rather than how they really are. It's very hard to override the desire to make something recognisable rather than simply make marks that show what it is.
I mean, I could write a whole blog post about that! But time time time. Streaming away like a bad cold.
I better go.
And that's the news.
