Toad

Sketch a day - Day 46/365

This morning Jane mentioned that the temperatures are due to start warming up a bit from next week. And that means that the magical moment when the toads begin to waken from their winter hibernation is drawing closer.

I love it when migration time comes, but also worry about it too. The mix of feelings that come up - hoping we can get to the toads and move them off the road before the cars get to them. And when we don't, the fear of finding them squashed. It's really awful. But every toad saved feels like such a win.

Anyway, I shall be banging on about the toads in the coming weeks I am sure.

Please slow down when you see toads on the road. Better still, if you see any, stop and move them off the road (wear gloves and don't use antibac before touching them. It kills them).

Anyway back to today

I saw my friend Jo for lunch (very delicious, thank you Jo❤️) and we talked about a lot of things including art stuff (Jo is a fab lino and screen printer https://www.instagram.com/jobuttsy?igsh=aWM2ZzV2dmZmZG4x ). And that made me think about the mono prints I have done (as I don't have the patience for lino cutting, I am much too much a slap stuff down kind of person). And THAT made me think about the diary I bought this year from Pith which I love, but which I couldn't use because the paper is beautiful but the format doesn't suit me (I need a page of note space per week, dunno why, just do). So then I had to get a new diary. And I felt bad because - paper wasted. And THEN that made me think of William. Kentridge and how he uses old books to do his India ink drawing and leaf prints. Which led me to think I could use my unused diary to draw into.

And that is the entire story of how today’s drawing came to be.

And that is the news.
